A hands-on leadership + cultural immersion experience in the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Antigua, Guatemala

The Guatemala Leadership & Language Exchange is seeking participants from the D.C. metro area for our June 10–18, 2026 program in the UNESCO World Heritage city of Antigua, Guatemala.
We are recruiting:

Students will participate in interactive leadership workshops, meaningful community service, and Spanish language practice in real-world settings—all while exploring Guatemala’s rich history and culture alongside a supportive cohort of peers and mentors.
Through guided reflection and hands-on learning, participants build independence, cultural awareness, and leadership skills that strengthen college readiness and broaden global perspective.
No prior Spanish study or international travel experience is required—though both are a plus. What matters most is curiosity, responsibility, and a willingness to grow.
We are seeking one committed educator from the D.C. metro area to join the program as a mentor and co-leader with most expenses covered. The selected educator will support student supervision, facilitate reflection, and help cultivate a safe, enriching learning environment. This is an opportunity to expand your own global perspective while guiding students through a transformative international experience.
This is not a one-time trip—it is part of a long-standing network of trusted relationships.
The program is administered by Partners of the Americas, a Washington, D.C.–based 501(c)(3) nonprofit with more than 60 years of experience and a legacy of sending over 2,300 young leaders on life-changing exchanges throughout Latin America and beyond.
In Guatemala, we work closely with respected local schools, educators, and community-based organizations to ensure the experience is culturally grounded and mutually meaningful. Workshops, service activities, and cultural exchanges are developed in collaboration with Guatemalan partners—so the service responds to real community priorities, and cultural engagement is guided by local leaders.
From pre-departure orientation to in-country supervision and clear safety planning, student well-being and responsible partnership remain central to every aspect of the program.
This 9-day exchange is intentionally designed to balance structure, exploration, and reflection. Each day blends leadership workshops, Spanish language exposure, cultural learning, and community service, all supported by trained staff and local partners. Students are guided through the experience from application to return home, ensuring clarity, safety, and meaningful outcomes for both participants and families.
Upon completing the program, participants will leave with a treasure trove of experiences and skills. Expect to complete a reflection journal capturing your thoughts and insights throughout the journey, along with a certificate acknowledging your commitment and achievements. A personalized recommendation letter (upon request) from program leaders enhances your college applications and showcases your leadership capabilities. These lasting outcomes not only enrich your college application but will also support future job prospects in addition to creating unforgettable memories and friendships.
This program is designed for high school students who are eager to learn, explore, and grow in a supportive group environment.
Student and educator applicants complete a short online application focused on interest, readiness, and motivation. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis by a selection panel.
Once accepted, students confirm participation and begin pre-departure preparation.
Students stay at Colegio Mayor de Santo Tomás de Aquino (Antigua)—a respected Guatemalan institution that has hosted international exchanges for decades.
